Adding RAM is the easiest of all notebook upgrades. There are two slots in most machines, generally under a panel with up to two screws. You take it off, slot the RAM in and reboot. The best bet is to buy from someone like crucial, www.crucial.com.

    hum.....have another question here
the minimum memory available for inspiron 9300 on the customize list is 256 mb, but i want to add it like to 1G
should i buy with the 256 mb and add 1G ram
or should i buy with a 512 mb and add another 512mb? (like a dual channel?)
    which one will be faster?

WHen buying, you should buy with the minimum amount of ram, as it is more expensive to buy with it.

Look at places such as newegg, and to open up, check the forums, i know there are people who make step by step guides to adding RAM/HD

JimRoss said that you CAN run your system like that, but it will NOT be utilizing the dual channel technology.

    Dell Inspiron 9300
    Pentium M 1.8
    1024MB DDR2
    60GB 7200RPM HDD
    Go6800 256MB

If you do not have identical memory modules in both slots you will NOT run Dual channel. If you have a 1gig stick and a 256Mb stick, you will not run dual channel. If you want optimal perfomance you want to use two indentical memory modules (Same Manufacturer, size, latency, etc.

What I did was buy two Kingston 512MB sticks from www.newegg.com for my i9300. It works great.

I bought my Notebook with 256MB of RAM. I bought a 512MB Memory from eBay for $50...Micron. Now I have 768MB. It was very easy to put it in, took me like 3 minutes!

    Very satisfied with it!
