    Hi,

I just got ssd drive, but I'm having trouble installing it inside laptop correctly.

My normal hdd has some type of rubbers attached to the ends, and those keep it inside fixed. I tried to remove rubber thing and screw it on the sdd drive, but SSD seems to be tad taller. I don't think I explained it good, but still, if you understand question, please help!

Does the HDD have a 7mm z Height?

Intel SSD's have a spacer you can remove to change from 9.5mm to 7mm z Height. Which SSD do you have?

Sorry :) i just woke up....

Its. Ocz vertex2 sata ii 40gb

Laptop hdd has type of a sleeve, with 4 rubber endings, i took that rubber off (it exposed schematics of hdd). So maybe i should remove cover of ssd too... But as notice says this will void warranty...

the ssd does not get damaged from movements. you just have to make sure that the cable can not pop out.

at best, try to place some rubber around it till it sits.

Don't disassemble the SSD. There is no reason for you to do that.

I thought the same, but I'm afraid rubber will melt, hdd is a mb hotspot. Any suggestions of some type of rubber that will not melt inside?

It's far more likely nearby plastic would melt WELL before any rubber would have an issue.

some pics would be very useful in better understanding your plight and how to go about resolving it.

i've always assummed notebook ssd/hdd are held in place with brackets + mounting screws....i dont even understand this whole "rubber sleeve" issue that you're currently descibring.

love to help but struggling to understand what exactly is the problem.

what kind of notebook has a hotspot over the hdd anyways - very curious to know please!

HP hdx16 has a hotspot right over the HDD, and I'm sure it's not hdd producing all this temp. That's why I'm planning to move normal hdd (which has lower operating temps than SSD) to cd rom cady, more space more ventilation there... and I will leave SSD under heavy heat :)

I will come back with photos as soon as I get home.

an SSD won't be a hotspot compared to a mechanical hdd...

On my Asus G73 it came with 2 bays, but only one bracket. I used the bracket with the hdd, and used velcro with the ssd to hold it in. A year later, no issues, and the ssd does not produce heat in comparision to a hdd.
