Yes the class 10 is supposed to be better.

but I came across a Sandisk mobile ultra SD card 16GB micro SD. it said on the specs the read speed was up to 30MBS. Write speed it didnt give the description.

most other CLass 10 micro SD cards have a read speed slower than that.

would you still go for a class 10 micro SD card or is it more important to judge them on the actual specs like im doing ?

A Class 10 device is guaranteed a minimum read and write rate. Using a lower class card in your device can result in dropouts (when capturing video) or worse lock up the camera (due to data corruption) depending how gracefully the camera/firmware and storage (SD card) interact.

Haven't bought class 6 for at least 6 years...

While the 'specs' may seem better (and you may think the write speeds don't matter...); remember that it only shows the maximum possible and not the sustained guaranteed minimum that the Class 10 cards easily achieve.

In other words: yes, I would ONLY go for a Class 10 card - especially if my equipment specified / required / benefitted from their use (and that happens to be all cameras I have played with in the last half dozen years).

Note too that the brand also matters... Sandisk Extremes are in a class by themselves (other 'equivalent' cards make the equipment laggy, non-responsive for seconds at a time and in my observations, even die faster than the top brands. This experience/observations are with mostly high end, pro equipment (consumer equipment may be more forgiving?).

Just keep in mind that the 'Class x' states a minimum, sustained, worst-case read/write speed - while the 'specs' or 'scores' simply indicate an 'up to' speed (with no guarantee that those speeds can't tank to below Class 2 specs or worse).

    Good luck.

Thanks for the response. yeah I think i might take it back. It was for my Samsung Galaxy. and you are right, was wondering why my phone sometimes closes or locks up when recording in HD. the micro SD card that it came with is Class 2.

and I know the write speeds matter. It just doesnt show it on the description of that praticular card. You would think it would be high if the read speed is.

    Bold/Italics in above quote mine.

Not only not neccessarily, but more than likely: NOT LIKELY (why would they give you more than they promised?).

but then also my device has to be compatible with taking advantage of a class 10 speed card as well or it will auto downgrade. I couldnt find online the speed compatibility for Samsung Galaxy S 4G

doesn't matter. tiller's point, and i agree with him, is that you should go for the class 10 regardless.

I would like to add that you should a class 10 card from a trusted company. A class 10 Sandisk and a class 10 no name are not equivalent.
For most purposes a class 6 would suffice too. Class 6 is fast enough to watch 1080p video.

Class 10 guarantee min speed, but some class 6 reviewed show speed exceed class 10 min.
Depend if you going to use it in a DSLR type of thing (sequential write) or phone/tablet (random read/write for apps etc) some may perform better than other even though they are labeled class 10. Some class 10 have minimal random read/write. You really have to dig review to see.
Sandisk do not have a "Real" separate class rating, it is just marketing. The one you linked to is a class 6. There is a faster sandisk they call extreme pro which is just class 10...

This is where im lost with the Guarantee min speed. just the way it sounds, sounds more like a negative vs a positive. Guessing im not understanding something cause I would have thought Guarantee maximum Speed would be a positive.

unless you mean Guarantee a min speed OF.

but either way il probably take it back for this one. sounds like a better deal.

yes, that's what tiller and baiii mean. class 10 SD memory guarantees a minimum read and write speed of 10mbps, no less but possibly faster.

    agreed.
