Tomorrow I should be receiving a Crucial m4 256gb msata drive to install in my NP9150, and both Crucial and Sean on Overclock.net have said that cloning is the easiest and fastest way to move the OS from a hard drive to the msata drive.
From conversing with a Crucial support rep it sounds like cloning software for standard sata and msata drives are different. He said:
" For getting the OS onto the SSD, cloning software is
typically the easiest method, though nothing we provide is compatible with
mSATA, and I have not received any feedback on which programs are best for mSATA
cloning. "
Is there any freeware cloning software anyone would recommend for cloning to the masta drive?
The following were tips provided by Crucial:
" 1. Firstly we would recommend that you update to the latest firmware version
for your SSD as any fixes or new features would be incorporated on this, as and
when they are released. You can download the latest firmware here:
Crucial.com Product Downloads - Firmware Updates
2. Ensure that that the SSD partitions are aligned correctly as mis-alignment
can cause a decrease in performance.
3. Disable superfetch, defrag and drive indexing within your operating system,
as well as your drive powering down during sleep/hibernate modes. "
What is aligned and mis-alignment refer to, and how can I check the alignment (and if necessary adjust it)?
