I am comletely dreaded and drenched with sweat dealing with this trouble.
2 months ago we had gone for a trip. It lasted for 2 weeks. When we returned and I started the desktop pc, it started and I was surfing the net. It suddenly hanged and I could do nothing.
Since then I have reinstalled the Windows OS twice to no avail.
Now I switched to Linux UBUNTU. (Nothing related to the problem here.) 2 weeks before I had got a UPS to solve the problem and it actually worked. But today again even with UPS the pc started to hang.
Sometimes even the System board beep doesnt sound. Today for the first time I actually heard a beeping sound that sounded like a police siren.
what can be the trouble?
1. My pc is on the left corner of a wall and the wall has develped leaking troubles. The power cables pass through this area. Since UPS solved the problem and it rained today I think its something with the power.
2. But it should work with a UPS in place. And the beeps dont sound all the time. Is it the system board?
3. When the beep doesnt sound the CPU Fan start rolling at The fastest speed making a hissing sound. Is it the CPU?
Please help. Its really frustrating. I had to repair the linux files 3 times.

Sounds like the water leakage short circuited your motherboard. You might want to change your PSU and mobo. Also check your other components, they might have been damaged by the short circuit.

I'd agree probably a PSU or motherboard issue.
Answering 3... the beeping sound I would guess means that the machine has not booted properly. That being the case the fan gets power but no commands from the motherboard to regulate what speed it should be going at, hence it just runs at full speed. This makes me think the motherboard needs replacing. -
Well if you are still hanging with a UPS then it would most likely be something internal. I know when my PC hung a lot, i swapped my power supply, and things have run much smoother since then. When did your mobo beep usualy? after the POST? If you have more than 1 stick of ram, you could try removing one, then the other, trying combos to test to see if the ram might be bad. the CPU idk how to best test that, just hope that isn't it, but what you were saying about #3 could be overheating on the CPU, maybe it isn't seated well with thermal paste

Check your power supply fan, if it looks like its dead, replace your PSU.

1. To check that its not the power supply problem, I ran my pc on UPS. The PC still hangs so its definitely not the power supply.
2. The main fan and Cpu fan are both running so that's not the problem.
3. I tried the ram sticks to see if they are at fault. Nothing.
Is it possible that due to an earthing in the cabinet the pc has problems in running? -
I'm confused. Unless you bypassed the PSU unit when running your PC on the UPS, how does this rule out the PSU as the problem? Since it's obviously not an OS problem, the most likely candidates are still the PSU or motherboard.
completely dreaded, pc hangs
