    hi
i want to connect 3.5" hdd to my hp dv2315nr laptop. The sata line i think is a normal 7 pin one but it uses a different connector for hard drive interface. I can get separate power supply for the hard disk..... the problem is to connect the 3.5" connector to an alien looking connector... i have attached pics...Are there any ready made connectors that i can use.

The adapter (2nd pic) is proprietary. You're going to have a very hard time finding anything that works with it.

    This can be done
All you need is a male to female 7 pin SATA cable
You will need an ATX power supply to power the harddrive. The ATX power supply will need to be jumpstarted with a paperclip (short green wire and any black wire - use a paperclip)
You will need to have the harddrive powered by the external power supply.

It will work, but its not going to be portable.

I guess I'm confused, but why not just use an external 3.5" hard drive enclosure with your 3.5" HDD and connect it to your laptop via a USB cable?
