The november consumer reports list the battery life of 28 laptops. The gateway NX260X has a life or 5.5 hours. The HP dv2000t has a life of 3.25 hours but HP offers a 12 cell battery as a $40 upgrade or a $180 accessory on it's web site. The heavy duty battery should give the HP a life of 6.5 hours making it the winner of all laptops tested. I don't know if other makers offer a heavy duty battery. It would be nice if retail stores also offered the upgrade.

I remember CompUSA selling the 12 cell extended battery for the HP DV1000/Compaq V2000 series.

Dell also offers a heavy duty battery send off for their catalog. HP business machines has a notebook sized battery that fits under your notebook that gives you 14 hours of life hopefully they will offer this on their other machines.
