    I'm looking for a cool-running 5400 rpm hard drive.

I'd like a higher capacity to make up for its <7200 rpm. 320 sounds nice, but a westerndigital hd that I found on newegg.com had some reviews companing about heat.

I hate hot laptops, because then they are a pain to use and I'm a college student so I'll probably use it alot.

So...any suggestions on a cool 5400 rpm hard drive?

or perhaps the western digital complaints are just abnormalities and most of them are cool? anyone know?

    thanks in advance

Western Digital hard drives run cool, in my experience. Seagate hard drives also run pretty cool.

western digitals usually run cool. design of the laptop, and where hdd is placed is also a major factor in temps of hdd. my hdd usually idles 30-32* +- a degree depending on ambient temperature. at full load, the highest i've ever seen it get is 38* and i wasn't using a cooler at the time. when using a cooler, it maxes at about 35*.

Fujitsus, Hitachis and Seagate Momentus's do NOT run cool.
    WD are cool though.
A WD scorpio 320/5400 should be what you're looking for, or a Toshiba in the same line.
