    Theres only two, Hitachi and Seagate, and being a 7200rpm it does get toasty.

    I've only tried the Hitachi so I can't say...

    Honestly, it wouldn't matter to me if the Seagate ran cooler, I'd still buy the Hitachi since they have much more experience.

    You're limited to two manufacturers when it comes to 7.2kRPM drives - Hitachi and Seagate. Out of the two, I'd get the Hitachi for the reason Brian posted - they've been making them longer. ;)

    There was a square off between the 7k100 and the 7200.1 over at Tom's Hardware or AnandTech. I can't rememeber which, but the bottom line was Hitachis had better performance and were noisier. Seagates were cool and quiet. I think either will be fine performance wise, but the Hitachi is quite a bit less expensive.

    anyone get toast status should consider a notebook cooler.... really, that thing works super well. the HDD of my ibook G4 always in a sweat for loading music... yo know, i don't want to BBQ on ibook at all :confused: ... a notebook cooler can help me on that... :)
