Just want to know from everyones experiences which manufacturer makes the coolest HD?

I just want to keep this in mind in the future when i upgrade my HD to a 7200 rpm drive.

Also, please state the model and speed of the one you used.

I believe Western Digital makes the coolest hard drives.

Whether a hard drive will run cool or not depends on the notebook itself, and the placement of the hard drive within it. My notebook's hard drive is hot no matter what, whether I would put in a slow 4200RPM or a high-performance 7200.

I went from a Samsung 80GB 5400RPM to a Hitachi 100GB 7200RPM drive, and have not noticed more than 1*-2* difference between the two. As I said, it depends on the notebook itself. Putting in a 7200RPM drive will not change the temperature signifigantly and will probably not be noticable anyway, so if you want to upgrade the drive, then don't hesitate.

There really is no difference between the models imho.

As Chaz had stated, it depends on the position of the hard drive.

Look at the modern desktop PC, Most hard drives tend to be placed in areas with air flow. Cases that do not have hotter hard drives. ;)

LaptopLogic had a roundup of drives tested in a T42 back in November 2005.

Within each rpm category the temps were pretty close together, usually no more than a 2 degree spread.
