hey im new here and i have an inspiron 600m. i have an extra battery for it which goes in place of the disc drive. however, when i put it in, my laptop doesn't recognize it or charge it. any advice here? also, is there any way to make my laptop run cooler? i want to be able to leave it on for long periods of time (a day or two straight) would this have any negative affects on my laptop?

To make your laptop run cooler, download a copy of I8KFANGUI.
This software allows you to control the temperatures at which the fans in your system come on.
I usually have the fans come on low around 120F, and high around 140F.
You do not want temperatures above 160F, it is too high for comfort.

As far as the battery goes, try shaking the battery a bit and putting it back in, sometimes the secondary battery on my older dell inspiron 8500 would stop being recognized, so I would just shake it a bit and put it back in. It is most likely just a loose wire in the battery, so hopefully shaking it will do the trick. If not, then you could always buy another battery.

Depending on your CPU, you might be able undervolt the cpu and thus running cooler, can shave a few degrees off the top temp of your cpu if you can.
