    Hi,
    I ordered an Asus Z96J with T2400 CPU and it should be arriving next week. I am wondering if anyone had tried to do 3d modeling or CAD with this processor ( I use Rhino, Maya, Photoshop, and Premier). How does it perform? Or I just bought a wrong processor. I was thinking to wait for Core 2 Duo and some suggest this cpu can handle it. My current desktop is pentium 4 2.4Ghz, will I see a performance change from T2400? Thank you.

    Programs that are NOT multithreaded cannot really take advantage of the dual core power.

    You will be able to see a difference for sure when you multitask. Performance is generally enhanced with "two procs."

    Find out if the programs you use are multithreaded.

    oh i see, so T2400 is clock at 1.83Ghz, which will be slower than my desktop 2.4Ghz....**** it

    No, no, I am not saying that at all. In fact, I don't know the exact benchmark comparison. All I am saying is that unless you know if your high end progs are multithreaded, you can't be sure if they take advantage of core duo.

    I just hope it doesn't disappoint me, because it's my only and first notebook.
    Thank you for the replies gautam3

    the T2400 1.83 is supposed to similar to a P4 3.4GHZ w/HT desktop wise.

    the core duo's are MHz for Mhz faster then a P4 by a good margain, coupled with the dual core ability I don't think you willbe disappointed, I use lightwave and have the same CPU it works better then my desktop Athlon 64 3700+. Though you probably already know this, don't use the touchpad for work use a mouse ;)

    One thing with different types of CPUs today, you cannot compare the GHz to see which is faster... that is, you cannot compare a Core Duo to a P-4 by using a GHz comparison. Clock per clock cycle the Core Duo can do more, it has a shorter pipeline which generally performs better then a P-4. There are some tasks that the P-4 can still outperform a Core Duo (not many)... but also that of course depends on which models you talk about.

    I just know for certain on a laptop, I'd so prefer a Core Duo over just about anything on the market right now. (Not including Core 2 Duo or AMD Turion x2)

    @nano
    One thing you also have to think about is what type of video processor (GPU) are you getting in the Asus Z96J. Photoshop is a CPU intensive program, but 3D modeling or CAD also stresses the GPU too so a good GPU would be to your best interest.

    you cant compare another cpu with another clock for clock. my 1.66 core duo blew my 3.2 ghz HT p4 out of the water and still beat it by a good margin when I oc'd the p4 to 3.54ghz HT. Even single threaded apps it was soundly beat. Dont let the lower clock speeds fool you. Also as stated multitasking will be hugely improved. Its a no brainer, get the core duo.

    The core duo will demolish that P4 even if your apps aren't multi threaded.
