As far as I know, duo 2 supports 64 bits and is also a little faster at the same clocking speed, intel states about 20% and all at no additional cost of power i think. Although I have read live testings that shows duo2 is about 9% better than duo at the same clocking speed so if that is the case what you are really going for is 64 bits.

it also can execute up to four instructions per core per clock. core duo only does three. it also has more aggressive power management to compensate for the additional power draw of the components.
and most models have double the cache. intel parts love more cache, so there will be some boost in performance. -
But that (instructions per clock cycle, and bigger cache) just translate into better performance like Zulak said...

but will the performance (coreduo vs core2duo) per clockcycle also be the same amount in percent better with the core2duo's whose contains only the 2mb l2 cache?

Yes. They have a better architecture overall, can execute more instructions per clock, etc.

the C2D has lots of improvements over a Core Duo, so even at the same clockspeed, with the same amount of cache, it'll still be faster.
