hi ist it possible to just stick a p entium m in the p4 sockect or do u need a new motherboard because the pm runs on a different voltage.
the reason why i ask is ,becuase those pm ' s sell for so cheap.

no dice, you can't just switch in a processor to laptops as the motherboards are configured specifically based on the processor that is select at configuration/purchase time.

Like Andrew said "no dice" not only are the voltages different, the pinout in the CPU packages are not even the same. Where are you getting CPU prices from? I ask because Pentium M processors are more expensive than the regular P4.

the acer manual shows u even how to change the cpu for upgrading.

you should be able to put another P4 in long as it has the same number of pins and is supported by the BIOS.

Technically the pentium M is compatible with the pentium 4's FSB, but Intel modified the sockets so they are not physically compatible.
