I have an Acer extensa 5220 with a Intel celeron 540 1.86 GHZ 533 MHz FSB, 1MB L2 cache. I want to upgrade the cpu to a faster processor , I bought an Intel Mobile Core 2 Duo T6570 2.1GHz 2MB AW80577GG0452MH 570032-001 Processor. Will it work on the laptop? I hope yes and please any instructions would be very helpful.

    cheers

Arnaud, the T5670 will physically fit, but work is another. Your Acer was sold only with the CPU you have.

See what kind of chipset your notebook has - download CPUID and go to the Mainboard tab, then tell us what it says next to "Chipset".

    Hi Arnaud26,
first of all I noticed that you have an old bios version (V1.27) you should update to (V1.35)
If you looked at "GL960 Chipset Processor Upgradability" thread you can see that I was able to upgrade my Acer Extensa CPU from M550 to T7250.
The acer extensa 5220 have GL960 chipset / or downgraded GL965 so it should be able to support any socket P Intel processor, accordingly your T6750 could work, currently I'm looking to further upgrade my acer to a higher CPU, like T8100 / T8300 / T9300 / T9500.
By the way, If you are willing to upgrade the ram, then you should consider that maximum ram for this laptop is 3g. (using 1g. stick at first slot + 2g. stick at second one).
    regards.

    Hi,
    just run ACERACDC.exe
this should perform bios update. please note that you should connect A/C power during this process to ensure the procedure fully completed without interruption.

    Hi,

I did as told, I double-clicked the ACERACDC.EXE, nothing really happened, there was just a command prompt/DOS flashing out just once.

I also right click and try to run as as administrator but same thing occurs.

I also used the windows run function.

NOTE: my v1.35 is inside my Downloads folder. Do I need to change location(i.e. Desktop) for it to work?

    Can you please help me

    Cheers

    O.K.,
first of all I downloaded Bios update for widnows 7 X32 from Acer driver download page: Acer | Download
but it is similar to any other OS (I downloaded the XP version also)
    1.JPG

after extracted the compressed file, I got the following:
    Capture.JPG

you just have to run CLB-135.exe

    it should without any problem.

    Again thanks,

I did it , at first it did not work, then i tried run as administrator, and it loaded, the application and update and restarted the machine.

By the way did you use thermal paste for replacing your old cpu to the new one.

    cheers.

of course, I used ARCTIC MX-4 which is easily dealt with and moreover non conductive.
you have to thoroughly clean the heat sink and CPU with rubbing alcohol before applying a small amount of the thermal paste.
additionally, the motherboard chipset uses thermal pad which I found broken and dry so I replaced it using thermal paste and a copper shim.
the process is really very simple especially Acer Extensa 5220 have easy access to CPU and heat sink and you don't have to remove other than the base plate (7 screws)
Let me know how it works for you.

    regards,

personally I didn't tried this type of thermal paste, but there are positive reviews on amazon and others. so I think it is O.K. I don't know if it is conductive or not as conductive thermal paste require special attention during application to avoid electric shortage of motherboard.
