so to begin i havea n alienware m1x R1 with 2x 20 gtx cards with latest nvidia drivers, disabling the hybrid in the bios. a 2.93 ghz t9800 cpu and 4gb of DDr3 ram."

opening CPU-Z i can see my cpu's Core speed is jumping between 1500-2900~ and in my task manager under performances my cpu usage is constantly going from 10%-90% at all times. i literally just reformated with a fresh OS install. all my drivers are installed and some games. its not over clocked and still have my overclock setting set to linked and auto so nothing should be effecting it there.
and i dont know if its suppose to or not but even my cpu multiplyer is changing constantly from 6X, 7.5X,11X

    any ideas?

when was the last time you cleaned the vents and fans out with compressed air. this is the biggest culprit for high temps leading to downclocking and jumpy mhz

Bring up task manager and check the processes to see if something is running. With a new install, sometimes there are things like indexing and virus checking that take place in the background for a while.

You can easily see, using task manager, which process is using your processor when its at 90% usage.. dont look at memory or hard disk usage ( in windows 8 case )
about CPU Frequency jumping around.. isnt it normal with speedstep that clocks keep changing up and down? unless ofcourse you are running some CPU Intensive task
