    hey everyone
    i want to upgrade my acer 4720z laptop it has a GL960 chipset.
    what are compatible cpu's that I could upgrade to?

    also i am having a problem flashing my BIOS. I looked on the website and all i found was an BIOS for windows xp but not for vista....]does that matter.
    can you guys give me some tips on how to find the correct BIOS

    There is no such thing as a different BIOS for XP and Vista.
    Acer does not offer BIOS update or downloads, so I wouldnt go about upgrading the BIOS on your system. If you download the wrong BIOS you can completely destroy your system.

    Try the CPU upgrade without the BIOS flash first. If it doesn't work, then try flashing the BIOS to the latest one....

    You can checkout the Acer Euro FTP site, and look for the latest BIOS in the BIOS folder for your notebook. I've seen Acer classifying BIOSs for Vista and XP, but that is because the installers are made specifically for that OS. If the OS BiT (32/64) is the same, then the installer will run in any OS. But I'm not a fan of automated windows BIOS flashing utilities. The best and safest way is to flash in DOS.

    Even if you brick your notebook, post in the Acer forum, and someone will provide you a copy of a Crisis Disk (if there is one), which can restore/fix a corrupt BIOS flash.
