hi i have a new desktop pc that have a croaking/scrapping HDD. i suspect its gonna die very soon. if i (sucesfully) copy the data from this broken HDD to another HDD would the data copied be corrupt in anyway?
and how long left i have till the HDD died? and how do i kill it? since i have 4 HDD and don't know which one is failing.

Copy all the data. Now.
There is no guarantees as to how long any drive will work after it shows signs of failing. My advice would be to only turn the discs on when you are copying the data. Minimize their usage.
Also, download HDTune ( http://www.hdtune.com/) and run it. If they are drives that support SMART reporting, you can probably find out which one is dying. If not, you'll just want to copy all the drive data for all four drives onto at least two discs.
As for the transfers, right now you'll probably be fine as the data is there and that isn't malfunctioning. What is dying is the mechanical portion of the drive responsible for spinning the discs. -
how do i view the smart status? this is a all-brand-new CUSTOM dekstop pc btw.

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
HDTune will have an option to let you view the SMART status. A variety of other programs, say, SpeedFan or something will also have options to view the SMART status.

HDTune will not ruin yoor HDD right?
because i heard that some program actually break you HDD. i don't know if this is just a myth.
is this the most used/popular one? -
Probably say that 90% of the people on NB have ran it before. -
I, personally, have never heard of a program destroying a HD. Maybe it's possible if the program purposefully overheats everything by running everything on max. I really don't know, but I do know HDTune is perfectly fine.
If it's not too much trouble could you post an audio clip of your HD. I just want to hear the croaking. Perhaps, it's your HDs mating call. -
probably; after all i have 4 of em, 2 pair of couple so to speak... or foursome?
but really though, they croak.... croak croak croak croak... not at all clicking sound. like my old maxtor.
terribly sorry, but i don't think it is possible to record it. i don't have Studio grade microphone. the HDD is cooled by 120mm fan so the noise from that usually drown the speaker recording.
