I ordered 2 x 1gb crucial sticks (CT12864A667), and today I received 2 x1gb rendition sticks (RT12864AC667). I was trying to find out the difference between crucial and rendition, and i wasn't sure what it was. Can someone explain? Are these the same sticks as crucial? Or should I call the retailer and tell them that I ordered 2 crucials, not renditions?

I would call and complain. Crucial is about the best memory you can get, I've never even heard of Rendition. It's probably some cheap generic junk, though I could be wrong seeing that I have no idea who they are.

Don't let them tell you some bull about them being the same chips. Most RAM chips are good, but board level implementation is what determines stability.

Rendition is the value line brand name of Crucial. Sort of like Kingston ValueRAM.

Rendition is obviously the inferior brand.

I would call up the place you ordered from and demand for your Crucial memory. You should get what you payed for, no ifs or buts.

I have been corrected, I guess Rendition is a Crucial brand. New to me...

Edit: There's no mention of it on Crucial's site, which I guess makes sense if they're relying on the retailer to offer support. I sent them an email asking them to outline any support and technical differences, and I'll post any responses here.

Thanks people! On the website I bought them from (cheaper than newegg! but for canada and in canadian dollars, www.canadacomputers.com), both crucial premium and crucial rendition 1gb pc5300 SODIMM are selling for the same price.

I'm kind of disappointed, Crucial being Crucial I expected to have heard back by now.

Eh, they didn't really tell me anything we don't know.

Thank you for your email. You will find the answers to your questions about the rendition module from the link I am providing. You will notice that Crucial does not provide Technical Support for this Value line of RAM and you will want to check on the warranty and guarantees.

Hmmm, that's interesting. I had some problems with a stick of Rendition memory that I purchased about 2 months ago and I called up Crucial and they set me up with a cross-ship RMA. They said they typically can't do that for memory that isn't purchased from Crucial directly, but the nice lady made an exception after talking to her supervisor. Very good service overall and they showed no indication that Rendition isn't covered by them.

interesting. Well thank you both. I sent the rendition modules back anyways to canadacomputers, and they're sending me 2 crucial sticks instead. Bastards didn't want to give me some compensation though. All they did was tell me they'll give me the new price of the sticks, which is $8 cheaper (each) now that when I purchased them (and that's only after I requested it).
Funny, i tell them i want some discount and some of my money back and they tell me "well we're sending you new ones at no extra charge!!!" haha, yeah right, as if that's such unique customer service! Any company would do that after they've screwed you up for more than a month (they're still waiting for their new stock of crucial chips to arrive as they're out of stock right now).
    Oh, bugger..

Yeah, I've never liked dealing with Canada Computers. Back in the day, their prices were quite low compared to other retailers around Canada, so I dealt with it and hoped nothing went wrong.

But now, it seems like there are several companies that can match or beat Canada Computers' prices so I rarely go there to buy anything, other than perhaps a USB hub or something small like that.

Like what? From what I've seen, canada computers has some amazing refurbished deals, and the cheapest RAMS (even cheaper than outpost.com or neweggs prices, converted to CAD).
