They can develop, that as why the guarantees of no dead pixel are for a time period. Describe the dot. It could be a stuck pixel which you may be able to massage out. Also software to do the same thing out there. I have never used as never had that problem.

if it's dead, it should remain black no matter what color the screen changes too. If it's stuck, it'll probably be multi-colored, usually red from what i see on people with stuck pixels on their monitors. you might be able to press on the screen and "snuff" it out, but that might be only a temporary solution or even a fix. if it's just one, I say you'll have to just live with it! not worth sending back to the manufacturer for a new screen (that is if they accept a return)

Looks like a dead pixel but its hard to tell from the pictures.

Get youself a program like this: http://www.prad.de/en/monitore/testsoftware/eizo-monitor-test.html

Its free, run thru the colors and it makes it much easier to determine if its dead or not. If its stuck chances are it will be stuck at one of the primary colors and thus you will not see it when you do the red/blue/green fill tests.

If its dead your most probably out of luck, but if its stuck you can try the message method and hope for the best.

Other than that talk to Dell and get the thing replaced if its under warrenty.

very thanx for ur replies. i tried those out.

however it seems that it is a dead pixel. can cleaning cause dead pixels ??. i was foolish to moisten cloth before cleaning i guess. i am a perfectionist and now everytime i look at the screen my view always goes to the dead pixel.

do u know dells replacement policy on dead pixels ??. how much should i need for a replacement. havent seen another one yet. am i lucky or unlucky ??

    Hi.

My laptop developed 2 cyan hot pixels, 2 weeks after i bought it.

I tried to fix them, but it was no good, so i sent it back.

    Regards

    John.

Look at the pixel very closely (you may need a magnifying glass). You will see that the display is a grid of squares. Is the black bit exactly in a square. If so, then it's a pixel. If not, it might be a mark made by a pen (the photos don't get close enough to show this level of detail).

Dead pixels are better than stuck pixels because the black looks like a speck of dust.
