How much are you willing to spend, exactly? Dell has bargain prices on their 17" flat panels and they have great picture quality, so perhaps start there.

Personally, I prefer NEC MultiSync monitors, but those tend to be expensive. -
I second the Dell 17 inch monitor recommendation by Chaz. Dell monitors have good value. There will be some good deals on monitors on Black Friday. You might want to keep an eye out for them.

thanks for the response.
I was looking to spend < £200 GBP
I've seen this Dell, which is £155:
Dell E177FP 17" mainstream LCD Flat Panel Monitor. 300cd/m2 brightness, 450:1 contrast, 8ms response time
and compared it to
this NEC monitor, the NEC multisync LCD175VXM+ which is £155 incl VAT
I don't know much about LCDs but what do you think?
The NEC info says one port: DVI digital in
Does that mean that the M1210 cannot be used with it, since it only has a VGA port on it?
edit: forget that, it also has VGA. Do most monitors come with both? -
Like Chaz said, NEC makes good monitors. I dont know the response time of the NEC, but if it is 8ms, you should go for it. If it is more than 8ms, then go for the Dell. The lower the response time, the less lag there will be on screen, especially when gaming. Most monitors come with VGA and DVI ports.

Even if the monitor is DVI only, there are adapters available that go DVI --> VGA; the monitor may even come with one.
Could you send another link to that NEC monitor? It says I have to be a registered member to view that page. -
sure chaz, here's a link to another website with the monitor's details:
