    dell 6430 audio jack

    I use a 3,5 mm stereo jack for line in from a cd player to my lap top that worked when plugged into my previous laptop.

    The new Dell I have has a Combo jack socket (one jack for input and output)

    If i push the jack fully into the socket I get no responce, but if it is only inserted half way it works 100%

    I am concerned about it shorting etc.

    I have downloaded IDT audio control pannel to get the sound activated on the laptop

    Please advise what i shoulf do
