hiya , not sure if this is in the right section appologies if its not but i was wondering if anyone could help me .

i have a dell d620 notebook and it keeps shutting itsself down. thecooling fan isnt spinning so i bought another fan and either thats broke or the d620 isnt giving power to the fan for some reason .... can anyone help... just wonderd what i should do next ... the laptops in bits and powers on to start windows but its as if the bios senses an overheat and powers off instantly...

my diagnosis is the fan should be spinning/cooling but for some unknown reason isnt..... hope someone can help..

Have you cleaned out the fan/heatsinks/heatfins so it won't overheat? You also may need new thermal compound on the CPU. Also consider replacing the CPU fan.

hi.. yes ive cleaned hetsink and everything .... when i turn laptop on the fan does not spin at all.. i thought it was a faulty fan so i got one off ebay (???) so nnot 100% sure it works, but that too doesnt spin at all.... ive heat sink pasted the heatsink and i cant see why except for fan not spinning it wont work.... i wish i could test the fan some how...

could the motherboard fan port for some reason packed in ..?? cant see it really as its quite a robust connection... help.....

The only way to test is with a known good fan. You also could have a faulty motherboard. Check it into your local repair shop and see if they can take a look at it.

    Try
    FN+Shift pressed then type 15324
    then next FN+R
Disable BIOS thermal controll and set FAN PWM to max (FF value)
