    I am looking at the e1405 $679
    +$100 T2050 core duo 1.60GHz/533 --> T5500 core 2 duo 1.66GHz/667

    Dell only offers 533MHz ram with either configuration. Does anyone know if this machine works with 667 ram? Maybe a motherboard northbridge issue? Integrated graphics might benefit.

    Maybe I just keep the $100 in my pocket...

    The E1405 does work with 667 ram but dell only offers 533. I couldnt tell you why this is but the 1405 does work with 667 ram. However, 533 ram is just as good- the difference is so minimal that you probably wouldnt notice a difference.

    It's fine with DDR2-667 RAM. The Australian version has that as an option. Dell probably got a great deal on DDR2-533, and they're trying to get rid of it while it's still worth a bit.
