hi everyone,
i have an old inspiron 1501, and beleive that in order for an ssd to work in my machine it needs to be one with an intel controller. i have read that the patriot and ocz drives will not work in my machine due to the contoller not being recognised by the bios?
i am watching a toshiba THNSNC128GBSJ and have not been able to confirm if this model has the intel controller.
can anyone confirm or otherwise this for me and if this one is not compatible are there any other than the actual intel ssd's that would work in my dell?
thank you for your time.
andy

Unless you are planning on only putting $100 in the SSD, i would advise buying a new machine. You can get something that will totally walk on the 1501 for $400 or so.
But, to answer your question, the intel 320 series drives will likely work with your machine, assuming your machine is SATA. (Which i belive it is)
Edit.. Looking at the Manual, It might be PATA;

My wife has a 1501 (that I got on Craigslist for $25, completely working!). I put a SATA SSD and 4GB, and upgraded the Semperon to a Turion 2. Honestly, for web and office it runs great. Most places say the machine will only take 2GB but it will take 4, only problem is DDR-2 is stupid expensive compared with DDR-3....

What kind of SSD did you install? I went to throw a spare SSD into my 1501 and the BIOS doesn't recognize it, even though every other computer recognizes it fine. Thanks! -
Kingston SVP 100S296G
96GB, works fine.... I also tried a Seagate 500GB Hybrid drive with no problems. Make sure your BIOS is up to date. Honestly I've never had a SATA HDD not be recognized by a laptop (or desktop for that matter)...

Im not trying to wum but an ssd will only be worth getting if you have a ddr3 ram 4gbs worth and an i5 or i7 cpu.
I used an inspiron 1501 and really it does get hot the gpu I believe doing anything intensive on websites so the ssd is pointless for anything intensive and it can hang.
I would if I was you sell your computer and I am sure you can a cheap core i series laptop for around under £200 used offf ebay that would make far better use of ssd. -
I got a crucial Ssd M4 128 gB
It makes my of run like a new one
I used EASEU to clone the HD
BTW my PC runs a lot cooler with the SSD it has been a great PCLast edited by a moderator: Jul 2, 2015
