I want to upgrade the cpu and video card on my d810. I have read the thread on using the go 6800 and also the pin mod for the processor, i have a 1.73 ghz and the x600 graphics. My question is , Is it possible or necessary to install a t2250 core duo in a 915pm chipset? I read on another site that Acer has a laptop with that configuration. What do you guys think? I am a noob so any info is appreciated.

You cannot upgrade your video card. Dell doesn't use interchangable GPU's in most of their models, and even when they do you can only insert a card that was built by Dell for that Dell computer. Since the D810 never had the 6800 it's impossible.

If you have a Pentium M, you cannot install the Core Duo or Core 2 Duo processors as the pin layout is different. The pin mod is risky but doable, but only if your processor's FSB 400MHz. If you have a 533MHz processor the pin mod isn't possible (or useful). If you want to check the FSB of your processor, download and run CPU-Z to get the info. However if I remember correctly the D810 carries a Pentium M with 533MHz FSB.

In any event, I think the x600 graphics card is probably near-par with the 6800. I'm not sure about it, but I don't think you'd gain much.

Err, it's not even CLOSE! The x600 is a good deal slower than the x700, which is on par with the nvdia 6600. The 6800 is a pretty good deal faster than the x700/6600, and the difference would be even greater compared to the x600.

Nevertheless, everything else that you need to know was said by night, so do as he said.
