hi ive been looking for a computer to buy and have narrowed it down to the dell 1520 or 1720. I have a question about the sound card, is it worth the 25 dollars to upgrade from the high definition audio 2.0 to the integrated sound blaster? Im not too picky about playing games with super high fps, but would like to start playing games on medium-high settings. So is there a notable difference between these two sound options? On a side note, ill be going to college in a year, and i was wondering if i buy the 1520 or 1720 now, will it be completly obsolete for games(casual) in a year or two, or is it wise to wait, though i would prefer to get a notebook real soon.

I personally can't really tell the difference between a cheap $20 pair of headphones versus a $200 Bose headphone although I have been told there is a difference and apparently people pay for it so I guess on the card it is up to you. $25 isn't that much for a laptop and you are going to play games though... As for when to get it, the longer you can wait the better. Computer performance roughly doubles every 2 years so definitely don't expect to play the latest games especially on a laptop that far down the line.

If you are not picky then it's probably not worth it.

It is not worth it. The sound blaster is merely a software package. It adds several processes/services to the system and takes up a good deal of resources. Don't buy it - you're getting the same sound either way.

If you really are into listening music, invest in an external soundcard and good speakers/ headphones.. the software isn't worth 25$...
