Mostly a Intel Question because AMD uses a diff name Turion, so Core 2 Duo with same specs (speed & L2) bench or perform the same wether mobile or desktop.

The desktop versions are much more powerful than the mobile versions.

The difference is not that significant. Yes the desktop versions are faster but that's because they have faster FSBs (1066MHz vs. 800MHz) and don't have to worry about power consumption. -

^ True, they are more powerful but you probably won't notice until you compare CPU benchmarks.

If you overclock a mobile C2D to the same speed as a desktop C2D you would get similar results.
I used to have a T7400 CPU that I put inside a desktop system. Granted that I could not match the desktop E6700 exactly, the actual CPU speed was close. T7400 was running at 2.6GHz compared to E6700 running at 2.66GHz. The main difference was the FSB, T7400 @ 200FSB x13 multiplier vs E6700 @ 266FSB x10 multiplier. In running brief CPU benchmarks, the times were close but the desktop version still came out ahead by a little bit.
Of course its not an exact fair comparison, because the motherboards are different. -
I have seen plenty of desktop CPU benchmarks, anywhere list of the mobiles, I have a AMD Turion 64X2 TL-52 real world works fine and price was right, just kind of curious I have been comparing desktop benches just wanted to get more accurate idea of diff.

Btw, unless you have the money to splurge and want to make a silent mobile on desktop system, its not worth getting a mobile C2D to use on a desktop system. The cost of the parts are inherently more expensive. Would be cheaper to buy the desktop versions and underclock it.
The T7400 mobile on desktop system I had, made no noise. Only noise you would hear is the hard drives when reading/writing. Did not need a fan on the CPU, since I used a desktop CPU cooler.
