    desktop core 2 vs laptop core 2

    Are laptop core 2 duos a hell lot slower than desktop core 2 duos?If so what are the difference in specs? :confused: :confused: Thanks.

    performance is going to be identical for identically clocked model's. there are two lines of Merom C2D for notebooks tho, one's with 2MB of cache and then one's with 4MB of cache.

    there should be no difference between a a 1.83ghz C2D Conroe or Merom if they have the same level of cache. the only differences seen might be due to the chipset that the motherboard utilizes. notebooks currently only have the 945, which isn't quite as fast as the 965 or 975, but the differences really should be negligible. :)

    There is also an important thing: FSB@667MHz for merom C2D (laptop) and 800MHz or 1066Mhz for conroe (desktop).

    most of the laptops also have some form of speedstep or w/e its called that regulates the processor speed by default so that battery life can be maximized.... my conroe chip in my desktop sure as hell doesnt scale down to 1 ghz or w/e ;p

    macker and amking, you're both wrong. Conroe is also a 667 bus, just like Merom, the 800mhz bus you're speaking of belongs to the older Pentium 4 Netburst architecture and the 1066mhz bus you speak of isn't fully supported yet, that's just what DDR2 is capable of. actually amking, you're not so much wrong then just missing out on a piece of information. the multi on the chips is unlocked, which allows you to drop it which lowers the clock speed. laptops just make a more active us of it to save on battery life. it's mostly just software taking advantage of options built into the CPU.

    Current notebook Core 2 Duo processors (Merom) have a 667MHz FSB; the 800MHz FSB Merom processors will come next year with the Santa Rosa Centrino platform.
    Desktop Core 2 Duos (Conroe) use a 1066MHz FSB.
    The Meroms are slightly slower than the Conroes for a couple of reasons, but they are the same CPU. I doubt it would be a noticeable difference.

    I guess I could have gone into a longer explanation about the FSB matter...but it all breaks down to the same speed. they both use PC2-5300 DDR2 memory on the same basic bus speed. I just didn't say enough to make it clear, thanks for clarifying that :)

    if there was such a major difference in bus speed between Merom and Conroe, then one would be significantly faster than the other, but as you pointed out, the differences wouldn't be noticeable.

    it will be interesting to see the faster cores soon tho!
