is there a difference between them? faster? its either i get a core duo with a x1400 512mb or a core 2 duo with a 7300 128mb...
here couple of notebooks i have in mind..
intel core 2 duo t5500
1gb ddr2 ram

sorry im pretty much new.. new in the forums and the notebook industries.

The Core 2 Duo is 64 bit CPU, meaning it can process data units 64 bits (8 bytes wide). The Core Duo is only a 32bit CPU. Even as of now, very few programs are programmed to take advantage of 64bit, but 64bit CPUs will become more useful in the near future.
core 2 duo with a 7300 128mb...
I would go with that laptop. It's got a nicer GPU, and a 64 bit CPU. You won't really notice any speed difference if your using MS Office, or browsing the net. You might notice is a little speed difference in speed if your gaming or running intensive tasks such as Video editing or Adobe Photoshop.
I'm pretty sure my first sentence is right, but could someone correct I've misunderstood anything? -
If you want gaming power go with to the X1400. If you want to be future proof, go with core 2 duo.
-
so the only difference is that core 2 duo is 64bit while core duo is only 32bit?
im not gonna upgrade to vista anytime soon.. what about speeds? -
They've the same clock-frequency, but the C2D has a better architecture, leading to about 10% higher performance. The X1400 is a better gpu than the go7300, but they're both pretty weak.
-
Core 2 Duo is more efficient
-
I'd go for the better video card. being 64 bits is not going to be important for other 2-3 years. Even most windows Vistas around are the 32 bits version.

Where is that Jalf ? -
Also, take note of the price of the two notebooks. The Mobility X1400 is a faster graphics card, and if that notebook is alot cheaper, than it could be a tempting deal for yourself. You should make a decision with the price and performance of each notebook taken into account. -
Yep, and keep in mind that Intel sets the prices of C2D close to or identical to those for the CD series with the intention of fazing the CD out. Do not get ripped off and pay $200---*ahem* Dell *cough* *wheeze* *snicker*---for an upgrade from say 1.8Ghz CD to 2.0Ghz C2D.
-
im not buying from dell (i was considering it but nah).
the notebook with the x1400 512mb is only 899$ CND compared to the notebook with the 7300 128mb thats 999$ CND.. so 100 difference.
both processors are the same when they are at simple tasks like mircosoft word, or surfing the web right?. what about game performence wise? -
In gaming, the processors will not affect overall speed gameplay performance. This is because the limiting factor in gaming is the hardware in your particular two cases. So, a faster processor will not make a massive difference.
-
so even if i get the core 2 duo notebook, its the same thing as the core duo but faster in other certain applications (encoding, i dont even do that.)
-
That's correct, unless you're a heavy-app user or gamer, you won't see much of a difference. The X1400 will perform better than the 7300Go.
-
^^ thats good, i get to save couple of bucks. i guess i will be getting the core duo w/ x1400 lappy ^^
thanks -
Wait, what Lil Mayz said looks good to me.
Unless I'm missing something obvious...
difference between core duo and core 2 duo
