    difference between svga and vga cable?

    I currently have a vga male to vga male cable that I use to connect my laptop to my monitor. I need another cable to connect my laptop to my tv but I can't find a vga male to vga male cable. Will a svga male to svga male cable work?

    It depends on the TV, I used VGA cable to connect to a Sony, LG and Magnavox (all LCD TVs) and it works up to 1920x1080. I used the same laptop and the same VGA cable to connect to a Panasonic 2009 plasma TV and... dang, it only works on lower resolutions... up to 800x600 and 1024x768 max. Anyways both SVGA and VGA cables are used for analog signals, they both use the same kind of plug HD-15. SVGA resolution is 800x600 and VGA is 640x480 but that doesn't mean they're limited to that resolution. Try to connect to the native resolution of the TV first if that doesn't work then try the next one down.

    Try using the SVGA cable between your laptop and monitor, and if that works, they're probably the same thing. I'm fairly certain they're the same thing. Some stupid company is just out to confuse everyone...

    I agree. Last time I heard of SVGA and Vesa was when I had a 80386DX running at 25Mhz and it was like the best system out there for like $900. Like 18 years ago or more. Just call the cable VGA if it has a 15-pin plug on each end.

    I did some research but nothing definitive came up. SVGA and VGA seems to be the same only thing different is that one is missing a pin and one isn't. My monitor that I bought in 2006 has a vga cable but I can't seem to find any vga cables now.

    I was wondering if I plugged in an svga cable and connected it from laptop to my tv would it work?

    Well, did you try using the SVGA cable between your laptop and your monitor? If it works, it's the same thing.

    EDIT: For that matter, just try it with your TV; I really can't think of anyway it'd harm your laptop or your TV.
