Can someone tell me the differences between these two processors? I am trying to decide which one will be better for gaming and 3D design. (for a Sager8660)
Intel P9500 45nm "Montevina" Core 2 Duo 2.53GHz w/6MB L2 On-die Cache - 1066MHz FSB 25 watt
AND
Intel T9600 45nm "Montevina" Core 2 Duo 2.80GHz w/6MB L2 on-die cache - 1066MHz FSB 35 watt
Thanks!

How much more is the upgrade?
-
in terms of raw power, the t9600 wins hands down
-
GO for the P9500, since it is only 247 MHz slower per core than the T9600, and both support the same platform, are literally identical in their specs, EXCEPT one thing -
With the P9500 the notebook's cooling system would require 10W of less power to dissipate the heat, as compared to the T9600 (which has a TDP of 35W) at full load (The P9500 will require less power, even when not at full load) -- Hence more battery life at an insignificant and minor loss of CPU frequency (The 233MHz/core difference of frequency is totally insignificant in the overall experience)
What you need is a good GPU....and I guess the NP8660 comes with the 9800GT, which is pretty good.... -
I second the P9500. You will probably save ~200 bucks not taking the upgrade, and have to use less power. For gaming and 3D design, a 2.53ghz processor should do fine.
-
Marginal and mostly un-noticable performance loss. The 9500 will be the better price/performance ratio chip.
-
Great! Thanks so much for the information and quick responses. Based on what I read on the forums I had thought the P9500 would be the more efficient way to go. Thanks for confirming this for me.

hello everyone. i just wanted to know this from some of u experts
i'm getting a clevo these days and i'm gonna buy the following machine
Cpu Intel Core 2 Duo P9500 2.53GHz (1066MHz) 6MB
Chipset Intel PM45 + ICH9M
HDD 320Gb SATA II 7200rpm
17,1" WUXGA+ (1920x1200) GT TFT LCD
GeForce 9800M GTX 1GB DDRIII
4GB DDRIII (1066MHz)
64-bit wide per channel
DVD DVD+-RW/+-R
Turbo Memory 2Gb
is it really any good to change the processor to a T9600? they're asking for more 150 euros, which is like 212 dollars more. i don't think it's worth it really. what do u guys think? thanks a lot in advance. -
-
It depends on what you're going to do with it.
For gaming it's not worth it.
If you encoding DVD's for a living it's worth it. -
thanks a lot naton/philflow
yeah i'm gonna use it for gaming, some working stuff. not gonna encode dvd's really. -
Edit:
I've just realised, the heat generated by the CPU won't be an issue in your system since in all scenarios it will generate less heat than the Go9800 GPU in your system
difference between these processors?
