So they are discontinuing four, I guess...high-end mobile CPUs. Is that mean they will be quickly discontinuing the other Sandy Bridge CPUs? then is it a good idea to buy Sandy Bridge laptops? I myself really looking forward for a Ivy bridge laptops, but most of the laptop are too expensive...
what you guys think?

Hardly shocking with ivy bridge launched. However not making it does not render current systems invalid. Even after they stop selling them, machines will still be around with them in.

You can still buy nehalem-based laptops and they are two generations behind now. The overall prices of laptops will remain constant. As Ivy bridge starts percolating down from the high end to mainstream, and then to the low end, obviously the older chips will be replaced. But Sandy Bridge will not be fully replaced until after Haswell launches, based on Core 2's and Nehalem's phaseout.

I don't think that my i7-2720QM is now suddenly obsolete since Intel's decision to stop making them
.

These are not even being phased out in favor of Ivy; they have been replaced quite some time ago at exactly the same price points by the 2640M, 2760QM, 2860QM and 2960XM. The discontinued processors are based on an earlier version of the 32nm processes used for Sandy and Intel must have run out of chips made with this version.

whether they continue making them only determines how long they are going to be sold for, not how long they are going to be useful for... they generally stop selling their old chips shortly after releasing new ones.

Heck i'm still rocker Core 2 on desktop and laptop. I like my core 2s.
