I just purchased a compaq f557us within two weeks the cd drive quit working. I returned it to circuit city and they couldn't do anything with it and gave me a new computer. After one day the same thing happened again. Being really bummed, I was getting ready to return this one also and decided to try one thing first. I did a system restore to before I downloaded some of microsofts upgrades. Believe it or not the drive showed back up on my computer and started working again. Has anyone else come across this issue, and if so any idea what I downloaded to cause this in the first place? As of right now I'm afraid to download any upgrades.

Sounds like a Windows OS problem, not a hardware problem. Might want to move the thread to the Windows forum. ;)
