hi. i was just curious if any of you had any real reason to have your laptop come with bluetooth.
i bought it with mine but i can't seem to be able to justify buying it.
i use a radio wireless mouse that is fine.
i don't use a bluetooth headset.
i own an iphone that doesn't really do anything with computer bluetooth.
how about you ladies and gents? what do you use your bluetooth for?
-
Nothing, but since it comes standard on my computer...
-
if i did have bluetooth in my computer it would be basicly for a keyboard, mouse, speakers, and a headset, thats bout it. or a skype headset something like that.
-
I have a bluetooth enabled stereo system, and I stream my media library from my laptop to the stereo via bluetooth.
I also use bluetooth to sync.
I have a bluetooth enabled printer.
And a bluetooth mouse.
Its a must have for me. -
Yea. I just got the shipped status on my NP9261 but yes once I get it.
I have so far a bluetooth headset << See PS >> and my cell phone has bluetooth.
Though I didn't get a bluetooth mouse, but they exist.
But anyways it's only 40 bucks and worth getting regardless. Just keep it off when you don't need it. Just think of it this way. If you dont get it you'll end up wanting it.
PS. Not a Cellphone headset but those should work with the laptop if I had one. Computer headset. -
I want bluetooth so I can sync my phone without hunting for the USB cable.
-
I use a bluetooth mouse, no more cords or little funky usb thingies sticking out of my laptop. I use it to connect to my phone to transfer songs, pictures and music. I used a headset to listen to music without the need for a wire.
If you really wanted, you could get a bluetooth printer/scanner and not need to have it plugged in to your usb port.
It's like wireless vs cable. Why be limited to a spot where the cable is and have an annoying thing attached to your computer when you can just browse the internet on your couch free of cables. The same way with bluetooth. I now have 3 peripherals connected to the laptop without a single wire. -

I've got a couple of PCMCIA BT cards, a USB BT dongle, a 56KB BT modem, a BT cell phone, and a BT PDA.
I ordered my most recent notebook with WiFi and without BT.
I don't use BT anymore. -
I've got a bluetooth headset for use with Skype. It's a Nokia BH900 so I can use it with my next cell phone which will be BT. If Logitech made a BT trackball I'd be all over it. I wish my digital camera was BT as it's getting to be a pain to find the usb cable to download pics (yeah I know I'm getting lazy.)

I do still use a BT headset with my cell phone, but no BT with my PC and I dropped my data plan on my cell phone, so I use WiFi rather than BT with my PDA now.
-
i use bluetooth to tether my phone as my internet connection while im on the road..
-
Came standard on my computer, but I've never used it.
-
i use bluetooth to avoid anything that requires extra cables, especially when i need to be on the road.
these included mouse, syncing my phone, etc. -
-
I thought about equipping mine with BT when I ordered it, but decided against it. Do not have any BT devices, so I figured it was something that would just be permanently turned off anyway.
On a side note, I was not aware of being able to print via BT (that idea sounds interesting to me). -
free upgrade for me so I didn't care..
for my pocket pc, i have yet to use it since the USB cradle dock works seamless, no use there..
my phone, I sync the MicroSD card with WMP using the latop's card reader for high speed transfers, so no use there too..
vx revolution mouse uses usb trasmitter instead of BT grrr...
if it's under $40, get BT anyway! -
I use it to sync with my BlackBerry. I think it is pretty handy.
-
It's only useful if yu want to use Bluetooth-compatible devices like mice. Otherwise, it tends to be more suitable for mobile devices like cell phones.

so do you have to charge them? im guessing you just plug them in
-
What are the benefits of using bluetooth instead of another wireless tech such as a wireless mouse, other than the dongle?
-
I use a Bluetooth headset when I Skype a couple times a week. It sounds much better than a built in mic, and it lets you easily speak to and hear the other person if you are moving around. It's very convenient for sending files to and from my cell phone as well.
-
Bluetooth has been implemented in a wide range of products such as speakers, picture frames, headphones, headsets, phones, computers, PDAs, cars, washing machines, notebooks, and many other electronics. It is one less thing to plug in, but it offers many more ways to connect. -
Thanks! -
Anyways, Bluetooth implementation has been slow as heck, esp. for mice. -
I use it to sync my calendar and contacts between the laptop and cell. Also I can send text messages through bluetooth with address book, which is handy sometimes. And also all the pictures I take I send them over to the computer. It's also handy if I wanna customize my cell, like new wallpapers or themes.
Of course you can do all that with a data cable, but bt is way more convenient for me. Do I need it? no. But wireless > messy tangly wires.
*cant wait for wireless usb* -
I use it to sync my cell phone with my computer...also the only way I can get the pictures of the phone or get some music on it.
Ok I could buy a USB cable, but it would cost about 20€. -
I use it with the mouse and the mobile phone
-
I use it for my PDA and cellphone. I use both my phone and my PDA for remote control and my PDA for surfing thruogh. I also use it for transfering files to my phone.
It came standard on both my laptops, but I would have gotten bluetooth anyways. Unfortunatly my Asus has the crappiest bluetooth stack (toshiba), so i don't use my pda as much anymore as the surfing and remote control functionality can't be used anymore. -
There are also plenty of high end thermostats with built in networking.
There is also the idea of a car with built in 802.11a/g/n. The idea is to allow for wireless syncing of music and routes to an advanced information system inside. When combined with the networked refrigerator and networked thermostat, it can even download a shopping list and adjust the thermostat back to normal settings (as well as adjust it to energy saving settings) ahead of time through VPN. No current commercial implementation of this idea, but DIYers have done it before.
The future will be networked. -
Toshiba makes a washer and dryer, refrigerator, and microwave with Bluetooth. It's only available in Japan though.

But japanese people barely use bluetooth. It's only now that it's getting more popular.
-
I have Bluetooth and paid some extra for it, planning to get a bluetooth mouse, but never got around to it for a year, and still have never used it. I like it on my cell phone though. The blutooth earpiece's are awesome!
-
if i did have bluetooth, i would probably use it to sync with my phone. other than that, nothing else. of course if something did come up in the future, i'll probably drop some cash for a USB bluetooth. hopefully, they'll make ones that conform to the sides of the notebook instead of sticking out.
do any of you actually even need BLUETOOTH?
