I recently ordered an alienware m9750. Due to the unreasonable amount of money they charge for parts, i opted for one 100gb drive insted of two. Given that i buy another 100gb hard drive of the same speed, will I be able to install raid 0 from the comfort of my own home? If yes, can anybody point me in the direction of an online guide, or a site to further my research? Also what do you guys recommend to prevent drive failures. thanks in advance

You should ask this question on the Alienware Forum. You'll probably get more answers. But as far as I know most manufactures (Or resellers like Alienware) offer the raid drivers etc with their machines purchase.

You would have to reinstall the OS to get RAID 0, Make sure you get an OS CD vs a recovery CD as you will have to install the RAID driver during the OS installation (plus having to go into BIOS and set you SATA Controller to RAID mode before the install).
As fro preventing drive failures, There is really nothing much that can be done except be vigilant about backing up your drives. Easiest is to get one of those USB external drives with one button backup and do it often. -
and what about a raid controller, is it already built in?

do it yourself (raid 0)
