    I don't think you can plug them directly into each other, i think i read somewhere that it could damage your comp.

    why you didn't use an USB or an cross-ethernet cable. It faster and cheaper.

    A regular cat5e cable will work just as well and same goes for a router.

    so i could just connect cat5e cable from my laptop to another laptop?
    Can i use this method to install software?
    For instance, lets say i got 3 laptops and i connect them to cat5e cables then install software from one comp.

    You can share the setup files and run from each computer, it won't save you any time. For 3 computers, I think you can only connect two of them at a time.

    SOME 1gb ethernet controllers don't even need a crossover cable it will work with any RJ45 cable

    Its possible with the right administrative settings, but not worth the effort.

    Rather you could share the main computers CD drive, or wherever the installer is, and access it from all 3 at once
