i have a core duo 1.5 ghz processor (not core 2 duo), which wikipedia states does not support 64 bit processes. but then i just read this:
http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/intel/intel-hiding-features-from-users-153822.php
and apparently it does ! has anyone had any experience using a 64 bit os on a core duo proceesor? will it work?

Core duo`s are 32 bit only so they don`t support 64bit OS.The Yonah (I have one and 64bit OS DO NOT WORK ON IT)
About newer chips and what the link says,I wouldn`t buy that.
Core 2 duo`s are 64 bit. -
Core 2 Duo's are the FIRST Intel processors to support 64bit.
-
ok cheers anyway

The_Observer 9262 is the best:)
I think it does support.

hmmm... i seem to be getting different answers everywhere

Definate No, the Core Duo wont run 64bit software. That rumor has existed since 2006 if there was any truth/way around it, it would have been discovered by now.
Try booting a 64bit Linux distro and find out for yourself or use Securable...

The Yonah CPUs might have the technology to support 64bit, but they have not been designed that way and will therefore not support 64bit Operating Systems.
does my processor support 64 bit?
