    hi !

if i buy a notebook with a 15'' screen with a resolution which was limited to 1440X900 , can i have a higher resolution on the output VGA (use a 24" monitor with 1920x1080) ?

Yes, but not when using cloned displays.

    Will be fine.

    and in dual screen ?
i have a very old desktop PC with Matrox (god bless this tradmark) video card where i can have a 800x600 resolution on a screen and a 1024x768 on another screen in the same time (very usefull with application with multiple toolbar or preview screen dedicated like video montage..).

Could i do it again on a notebook with VGA output ?

go to the graphics properties and select screen two, and adjust the slider and see how far it goes.
Certain graphics cards cannot push 1920x1200 over two screens.
My ATI X1400 can push 1920x1200 on one screen, but if I attach my matrox with dual screens, it can only push 1600x1050 on each screen

What graphics card do you have?

If you have integrated gpu, you probably cant force more than 1280x800 on each external screen.

All my notebooks that has had nvidia graphics could all do any resolution on the secondary screen. As mine now, i can do 2048x1536 on the secondary while having 1280x800 (max) on the primary notebook screen.

Behold that i'm just talking about nvidia gpu's and nothing else.

the quadro fx770 will be able to handle dual output because of the nvidia control panel. It will allow you to run two external screens at the same or different resolutions. That card should be able to push 1920x1200 on each external screen.

Let us know how it works
