My Girlfriend dropped her hp tablet while it was on. Screen is cracked so I have to replace that (that'll be a fun afternoon...), but I am concerned about the hardware inside, most notably the hard drive. What should I do to check and make sure no damage was done? Any programs you would suggest?

HD tune has a decent error checking utility as well.

Ouch! It's not good to drop laptops. I've read somewhere that every year 300.000 laptops falls and breaks... and that number is for USA only.
I dropped my laptop on to the pavement an hour after I purchased it. I was on my home with my new laptop and I was so excited that I opened the box just to take a look at the laptop. And I didn't put it back inside and you can guess what happened next. I learned a very valuable lesson that day. The laptop works perfect but there's some ugly scratches which I actually couldn't care less about.

I'd copy any important files off of the computer before a surface scan, because if the drive is in quite a bad state, any taxing tests might cause it to completely fail (and then all of your files are gone..).
