hey im looking to set up 2 monitors so i can play more tables of online poker. i have 2 inspiron 600m laptops. one of them is pretty much being cannibalized for parts (some keys from the keyboard, etc..) Is it possible to connect the cannibalized laptop to my main laptop so that it acts as a second monitor? it still runs fine and everything

u cud use a vga to s-video connector....

I do not think that one is possible. You would need to get a matrox dual head 2 go in order to get two screens to work.
however, if you are using the screen on your working laptop, and your laptop has an external vga or dvi port, you can use the vga/dvi port to run an external monitor, which you can also use to display online poker games. That way you can use two screens, one external, and the one onboard screen.
If you do not want to do that, then you will have to buy two external screens and a matrox dual head 2 go, to split the video signal to both laptops.

im looking at a 15in dell flat panel to buy for pretty cheap. it includes the vga cable and power cable. is that all i need to get another monitor hooked up to my dell inspiron 600m?

yes, that is all. You just need a monitor, power cable and a vga cable which plugs into your laptop.
You will need to go into the graphics drivers to set the display output to spanning mode, so that the windows screen covers both sceens, thus giving you 2x the space. If you do not do this, you will have an exact replica of the laptop screen on the external. This is called mirroring/cloning. You do not want this, you want to use spanning mode
