I've seen 3 different kinds of quad CPU for laptops.
Intel® Q9000 45nm Core2 Quad 2.0GHz w/6MB L2 On-die cache - 1066MHz FSB ( + $165 )
Intel® Q9100 45nm Core2 Quad 2.26GHz w/12MB L2 On-die cache - 1066MHz FSB ( + $715 )
Intel® QX9300 45nm Core2 Quad 2.53GHz w/12MB L2 On-die cache - 1066MHz FSB ( + $915 )
as you can see they are very expensive, especially the last two. I'm considering if I should get Q9000 or T9900 Duo at 3.06GHz. Which would be better for gaming?

I think you should pay more attention to the gpu, from what you have posted i would go for the T9900.

I'd say it really depends on your budget - if you need to cut something, cut the quad core. Most games are not that CPU intensive anyway.

Quite frankly, you are wasting your money buying a high-end CPU for the specific purpose of gaming. There are other more important components that drive gaming performance than the CPU. That's not to say that the CPU doesn't have anything to do with gaming performance, far from it. Rather, you should concentrate on things that have an immediate and lasting effect on laptop gaming such as memory, your videocard, and your hard drive.
Suffice to say, unless a game was developed to take advantage of multiple cores in a processor (and there aren't many), I would opt for the fastest dual core you can afford. The extra expense of a high-end quad core processor in a notebook just isn't enough to offset the ridiculous price tag versus a small or possibly no gain in gaming performance in a notebook. -
This is for the reseller versions of the G51 right?
Anyways, go for the Q9000. It'll last you a while and by the time you would want to have it upgraded, you can just buy a better quad for much less money than they're charging you and do it yourself. Your warranty would've most likely run out by that time anyways.
duo or quad for laptop gaming?
