i've heard that there is a duo-core patch that needs to be installed in order to fully utilize its power. is this true?
-
I don't think so...
I think you're referring to the Core Duo USB port problem, where if on battery power, USB devices will suck battery life more than usual, causing some to have problems with Core Duo. -
So this USB battery issue is not yet solved?

i use Cubase for audio prodution and i read on a forum that u need the patch from microsoft for the duo-core processors in order to utilize the duo-core abilities

I think early versions of XP home did not have dual core support. If you have the available service packs installed, you have dual core support.
