Hi, I'm hesitiant to open up new hardware (e.g. my new notebook)

Normally, I'll "fix" old stuff in order to justify the need to my wife -- the list is long: treo, averatec, palms, etc.

Anyhow, I need more RAM. Can I buy any generic RAM, or do I need to buy something specific? If so, any suggestions?

Additionally, I understand I have two slots with 256 each. Can I buy 1gb, pull the other 256, and install the 1gb, leaving the other 256?

Thanks in advance for any help!
    Michael

Generic RAM is often fine but make sure you buy the right one and the place you get it from allows exchanges in case it doesn't work or if its faulty...
