Hi,
Hi,
The HP product page for the dv2699 states that the maximum RAM is 2GB , however the chipset would appear to support up to 4GB. Is there actually a 2GB limitation, has anyone tried to put more than 2GB in one of these.
Best Regards, Simon.

yes definately 4gb capable

Hi,
Thanks for the reply, have you tried more than 2GB? What is your impression of the screen. I've seen a reviews that states it is only average? -
can't you see the notebook in his stat at the bottom? =D
-
4gb as it says on my signature...
Overall id say above average for a 14.1inch notebook. It really depends person to person.
Have a few more reads on reviews to get to know the pros and cons very well -

Ooops, didn't notice that
I'm really torn between the dv2699 and and m1330 with a similar spec -
Get something with a 21day refund period. So you can return the laptop if you dont like it and get the other
I remember alot of dell users complaining about grainy screens. They might have fixed this now so id double check on reviews... -
I thought the DeLL grainy screens were isolated to the 15.4 WXGA+ MFG by Samsung? The 1330 also have LED as an option. So like flip said make sure you can return if unsatisfied w/screens it is an opinion a lot of the time except for the clearly flawed screens as mentioned (certain DeLLs).

Yes it is 4GB capable.
-
may I ask what you think of the build quality and display?
-
I bought this in the Middle East but I need to admit that I am very convinced with this purchase of mine.
-
Hmmh, well a HP rep got back to me stating that the board on dv2699 is definatly limited to 2GB for technical reasons. radopod have you tried 4GB in it? Flipfire your signature states a dv2637, this seems to be a different model is it just country specific?
-
Firstly these HP reps don't know much frankly. Secondly if you can confirm us that you have a 965 Intel Motherboard we can tell you that you can use 4 GBs. I haven't tried it yet though. But I am pretty sure about all this. Use CPU Z to check your Motherboard details.
-
yep it is 965, but it is possible that a bios limitation or other hardware problem may cause the limit. I seem to remember the dv2500 initially being sold with up to 4gig and then being reduced to a max of 2gig. What I don't understand is the point in stating a 2gb max limit on their product page when it is possible to add 4gig. I suppose this could be an attempt to force buyers to purchase the more expensive dv2799
or maybe I'm just cynical.
-
If it doesnt take 4gb, it most likely just needs the BIOS update that gives it full 4gb support. I doubt you need this update because that model is quite new.
I am quite sure that it will take 2x2gb no problem. -
All of those 14.1" units have been capable of 2X2GB ram since the early dv2000s (with a BIOS update). The dv2600 range should already include this capability......
-
I guess they are monkeys. I recevied the laptop today and it seems to work fine with 4GB
I'm fairly impressed with the notebook, excelleny keyboard and general finish. My only complaint would be the build quality around the display. Specifically the case doesn't seem to clip together properly around the webcam, there is a small gap. Flipfire is yours the same as this? I'm probably just being pickey because it's new
-
Everything seems fine on mine. Hope this helps!
-
No its fine, it shuts properly with only a tiny gap near the webcam area
Heres a pic if helps:
Yes everything is blue haha -
Oh that gap! Well that isn't a fault but is has been designed so!
As for you flipfire, got some really good stuff there! Can see another HP there as well plus of course everything is indeed blue!
