Has anyone running this machine put 4gb of ram in? Im just wondering if vista 64 bit had any issues with it, and what gamins you got out of it? I plan on using the laptop for at least another year, and im thinking 4gb ram will help with me having lots of stuff open at one time. I frequently have a few adobe apps, Firefox, Thunderbird, messaging programs and more open. The 2gb has done well so far, there are just a lot of good deals right now for under 50$.

    Any advice would be great!

I have an 8400M GS 128MB with 4GB system RAM running Vista 32bit (see my sig for more details). In my case Windows can use up to 3581MB out of that 4GB. To me, that missing 500MB is not really worth the hassle of switching to 64bit (potential driver and software issues).

I cant guarantee that your Windows will also detect up to 3.5GB, but since graphics card is usually the one that take most of the address space, I don't see why not.

I have had a 32 bit detect 4gb before on ym desktop. I would ues 64 bit i think its better then 32bit and HP has drivers for 64bit on their website my dv6500t is running 64 bit with similar hardware to yours.

If you have SP1 installed, it will show the total amount of RAM installed but not utilized.

I have the same notebook as you, 4gb was a great upgrade. Definitely an noticeable improvement.

If i recall correctly 4gb on 32bit will only show 3020mb on our machines due to the hardware installed.

It shows 3581MB on mine. Except the graphics card I can't imagine anything else taking that much memory...

so If I am running 64bit, and have the latest SP then I will see a increase in performance? Frys has 4gb for 19.99$ after 40$ MIR.
