i have a dv4000 running an integrated graphics card. i want to run decent games such as hl2 and bf2. i couldn't care less about playing with god-like graphics... i just want the game to run. i currently have 512 ram and am wondering is upgrading ram alot would allow the system to allocate enough ram to graphics to play these games... ideas? anyone. :hp:

HL2 should run at low res with 1gb ram, but at very low FPS.

BF2 should be kinda impossible... :(

In the end it all depends on the GPU. :(

I hope you bought that motherboard from somewhere with a good return policy...you can't simply start replacing all the internal components in your notebook! Notebooks must use specific motherboards built by the manufacturer for their specific computers; desktop parts won't fit. And the dv4000 uses Intel processors, not AMD. Furthermore, its graphics card is integrated into the motherboard and cannot be replaced.

I know we would all love it if we could simply rip out all the outdated componenets in our notebooks and start rebuilding from scratch, but notebooks are too cramped for space to use just any old generic parts.

Yeah, you are stuck with the integrated graphics :(

Improving your RAM will help some, because then the video card can use more and the game has more room to run around. But as for playing games, well, don't expect anything. You could probably get some games to be playable at a 640x480 res or maybe an 800x600, but on the bare-bones lowest settings.

Integrated Gfx, even the most "advanced", are a no-go for games.

BTW, that is a nice laptop there, a dv4000, it got excellent reviews. :hp:
