I finally managed to get the stripped screw out of my notebook so i can upgrade the ram (120 volt power drill and about an hour of patience)! Now the dilemma i'm in is how much ram i should get since i want to spend under 75 dollars. I have 2 x 512mb sodimms of ddr2 667 and i'm looking to upgrade to at least 2gb. I either want to replace the two sodimms with 2 x 1gb ddr2 533 or replace only one sodimm with a 2gb ddr 533. Does the hp pavilion dv8000t support 2.5 gigs or am i limited to 2 gigs max? I'm running windows xp.

Sounds painful; did you grind the screw to dust or what?

You can get 2GB of RAM for under $75 no problem. :)

I am not sure how much memory the dv8000t supports, that is something you should email HP about. If you're on Windows XP there is no real point to getting more than 2GB of RAM in my opinion.

lol actually i was trying to break the screw head off completely but somehow i managed to chisel a straight edge into the head which made it easy to screw it out with a normal screwdriver.

Anyways, i've decided to get 2gb of Buffalo ddr2 667 ($28.99 each plus about $6 shipping). Hopefully i'm not wasting my money because i'm really needing a nice performance boost in multitasking.
