I just try to buy a hard drive 100 gb 7200 or 250 7200 and a memory 2gb for mine ordered dv8000z from zipzoomfly.
:hp:
Can you please help me with it...
How do you know when you buy "a good" hard drive and memory for your laptop?. Are their different sizes?
What do they mean with Mobile hard drives?

The dv8000z uses a 2.5" ATA100/ATA6 hard drive. This is a common standard for most notebooks. There are other standards like 1.8" drives and SATA connectivity but they are not as common as the 2.5" ATA100 hard drives.
Desktop hard drives are bigger(3.5"), heavier and consume more power and wont fit in the space provided for a mobile or notebook hard drive.
One more thing, if you want to buy a second hard drive, then it is better to get that from HP, then sell it and put in any hard drive you want since HP laptops use an adaptor to connect to the laptop. They only sell this along with a HDD and refuse to sell it on its own. So do get the second hard drive from HP if you want to use that functionality. -
There are only two 100GB 7200RPM drives, the Hitachi 7k100 and Seagate 7200.1. The Hitachi has better performance. the Seagate runs cooler and quieter. Hitachi is also less expensive.

Is 100gb enough for video editing and photoshop?
Or can I better order an 250 gb..... -

You might also want to consider an external drive. It is a great option and can get alot better price than an internal 2.5 for a laptop. If you can handle the extra weight when you carry it around, it is much better.
Just my opinion. -
Like was suggested...for video editing...provided that laptop has a firewire port(I don't know it's specs), get yourself a external hard drive for your video instead. Make sure it's firewire compatible(or grab a cheap 3.5" drive and a firewire compatible external shell). Also...you'll need to order a firewire 6pin-4pin cable probably. If a firewire cable's included...odds are it'll be 6pin-6pin. The hard drive will take a 6pin, but your laptop will have a 4pin interface...requiring you to purchase another cable. The two drawbacks to going external are the fact that you have another component to lug around...and with a firewire setup like this, you'll need to plug in the external harddrive, as it won't power itself off the laptop. You could use USB2.0 instead to get it powered off the lappy, but the performance will be significantly lower on that setup. -
the Hitachi 7k100 comes only as 80 gb at neweggs.com.
