    Calling all dv9000t experienced users.
I would like to know if I can upgrade the processor in my notebook from t5500 to the t7600 ? Has anyone ever tried to upgrade the processor in this notebook?

While technically yes, the CPU can be upgraded, however, it's a very hard. You'd have to pretty much completely disassemble the notebook, and put it back together.

Not to mention it'll void your warranty.

If you really want to do it, I suggest downloading the service manual for the notebook. It should be at HP's site.

Well, unless you are doing MAJOR processor intensive apps (scientific calculations, video encoding on a tight time budget, etc) it isn't going to be worth it. But yes, Jon is right.

awesome just had to know. I have upgraded to vista and just have a crave for speed. Other than the processor itself and the thermal grease anything else that might be needed to accomplish this task?

Hm, the CPU will not give you more speed in Vista. It may or may not make things smoother in cases of 20 Firefox windows but what you need is faster RAM and HDD.

The BIOS would support it with no problem.

HP uses the same BIOS for the entire Merom line up.

I am thinking of going from a T2250 to a T7200...and in these HP notebooks it IS an extremely involved process. Like someone said, you have to practically tear the notebook apart.

Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste is a must. As others have said unless you are doing really cpu-intensive tasks like handling complex images in photoshop, encoding or compiling, it probably isn't worth the time, money and effort. Vista will run much quicker with some more ram so that's an easier and more realistic upgrade, also a 7200rpm hard drive is a great addition from a 5400rpm drive if you don't already have one.
